Here you’ll see stuff that I couldn’t fit in with the other works but I still felt should be shown in some way. During my time at BIMM I took 2 years of “Music for Moving Image” and did audio and music for video projects outside of my own institution. Since then the amount of video projects has died down but I still do something every once in a while. I won’t show you everything I’ve done but here are 5 items that I think sum things up nicely.
This first video was a school project of mine while I was at IUA. The reason I picked it is because it showcases my compositional capabilities. I only did the music for this and I have never met the director. This was probably a film school project in some far away country so I’m not in the credits.
This is the most recent video I made audio for. I picked it because the sound takes center stage in this one. I also did all the foleying. Sidenote, this is a project my girlfriend did for a video course at IUA. She also stars in it.
During my time at BIMM I got to know two guys, Dovydas Gataveckas and Marley Owen-le Bozec. We formed a band and did a ton of performative stuff together while at BIMM. After we finished our degree we founded a Youtube channel under the name "Innit Memes Ltd." The channel features both videos we made individually and stuff we made together. The following video is called “Beauty” and is a critique of beauty culture, something we were very much surrounded by at BIMM. We made a video version of our performance and it was the first video we uploaded to youtube.
We were trying to make something ugly in order to challenge societal beauty norms. Hope that was clear. We made 4 performances while at BIMM.
If you read the earlier example you’ll know that I’ve worked with two others on a video channel. We also collaborated on making music for a short film by a student at Kvikmyndaskóli Íslands (I can’t find the english name, it’s a film school).
After we made this video I got tasked with making music for a lot of different projects for students at the same school.
In 2016 I got contacted to make music for an ad. The ad isn’t very long, as you’ll see below, nor is it my best work but the reason I include it here is because after it was finished I got asked to make the music for the entire movie. It was an indie thing which required me to re-record all of the actors, foley everything, compose the music, mix and master. All pro bono. Long story short, it didn’t work out but I sure learned a lot that summer.
I was really into making music for video and still am. However, when my time at BIMM was almost up I realized that I really wanted to focus on generative music. I really want to try my hand at video game music someday. In the next section I’ll talk about my main focus at BIMM spanning from 2015 to 2018.
